Over 1200 attendees comprising faculty, students, their family, and members of the QIU Council witnessed the fifth annual Convocation of the Quest International University (QIU) on Sunday, 24th November 2019.

Degrees were conferred to students from the Faculties of Medicine, Pharmacy, Business and Management, Social Sciences, and Science and Technology. In line with its growing stature as a global educational institution, gor the first time, QIU also honoured its first international valedictorian at the Convocation Ceremony.

Bachelor of Mass Communication (Hons) Journalism graduate Sahibzada Mubashir Noor, who hails from Pakistan, was conferred with the Dato’ Sri Dr Vijay Eswaran award for outstanding scholastic achievement. At 37, Moby, as he is known around the campus, is one of QIU’s oldest students and has worked as a journalist in 3 countries; the US, Thailand and Pakistan, for 5 years. Despite his experience as a journalist, he never had the opportunity to formally train in the discipline. Moby chose QIU for his academic journey and with a near perfect GPA and a stellar record of participation in extracurricular activities, he was the obvious choice for valedictorian.

He was one of 374 students who graduated at this year’s convocation, which was presided over by University Council Chairman Dato’ Sri Dr Vijay Eswaran.

Another outstanding student who was the star of the ceremony is QIU Medical graduate, Dr Tan Sing Ying, who received the Best Medical Student Award by the Malaysian Medical Association of Perak. Dr Tan is from Tanjung Padang, an area in North Perak, Malaysia. Her father is a fisherman and she is the only girl in a family of 5 siblings. This 26-year-old is also a Dean’s List award recipient this year.

As an interesting footnote, the convocation had two sets of identical twins graduating different programmes!

Nisheljeet Singh and Nivrenjeet Singh graduated with Bachelor’s Degrees in Biomedical Sciences (Hons), while Tanitha Ragunathan and Thaswathy Ragunathan received their Diploma in Hotel Management.

The certificates were handed out by Dato’ Sri Dr Vijay Eswaran, and University Council members Tan Sri Megat Najmuddin Khas and Tan Sri S. Veerasingam.
