Two straight victories in their final two Malaysia Super League (MSL) games, including their admirable 2-1 season-ending win over former powerhouse Selangor FC at the MBPJ Stadium, has the Phoenix all pumped up for the Malaysia Cup tournament next.
Coach M. Maniam said he was proud of the great performances displayed by his charges despite playing without key players for the most part of the season due to injuries.
“After three seasons, PJ City FC has proved to be part of the established big boys of the league. We attracted the attention of all the teams after parading an all-local players side this season. I thank the management for having faith in the local players who gave their best and proved their worth against some of the foreign players in the league,” noted Maniam.
For the record, PJ City won six, drew six and lost 10 games of the total 22 home and away games this season. The team amassed 24 points to finish 7th in the Super League Table, retaining the same position as last year.
After finishing eighth in their maiden MSL Journey in 2019, the Phoenix went one rung better in 2020 and announced an all-local flair in the team for the 2021 season.
QI Group-owned PJ City FC is all set to remain an all-local players outfit for the MSL 2022 season. The team is now geared up for the 2021 Malaysia Cup campaign, which kicks off later September.
