Over 200 participants advancing inclusion and community support and the Taarana's Walk for Autism Malaysia.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 1 in 127 people globally are on the autism spectrum, underscoring the growing need for inclusive communities, accessible support systems and greater public understanding of autism worldwide.

In conjunction with Autism Awareness Month in April, QI Group, through its social impact arm RYTHM Foundation, supported Taarana School’s annual Walk for Autism Malaysia, reinforcing its commitment to advancing inclusion, awareness and community support for individuals on the autism spectrum.

The initiative brought together over 200 participants, including students, families, educators and community partners, in a collective effort to foster understanding, acceptance and inclusion for neurodivergent individuals.

Having expanded steadily since its launch, the Walk for Autism continues to evolve as a growing platform that encourages conversations around autism inclusion while connecting families with valuable support networks and resources.

The programme featured a community walk, interactive activities, games and informational booths covering therapy, healthcare and child development services. Seven partner organisations, including Autism Café Project, Ara Damansara Medical Centre, Sun Rehab and Tropicana Berhad, participated in the event, highlighting the importance of cross-sector collaboration in strengthening autism support ecosystems and improving access to resources for children on the spectrum.

Addressing participants, Umayal Eswaran, Chairperson of RYTHM Foundation, emphasised that awareness alone is not enough.

“Awareness is the first step, but it cannot stop there. As a community, we must move towards acceptance, inclusion and support in our everyday lives,” she said.

She added that meaningful progress begins with collective responsibility and everyday actions.

“It is in our schools, our workplaces, our conversations and our attitudes that real change happens.”

For many parents, the walk provided a welcoming and supportive environment where children could participate freely and feel a sense of belonging within the wider community. The event also reinforced the role of collective action in creating environments where individuals on the autism spectrum feel valued, respected and supported.

By continuing to champion inclusive education and stronger community awareness, QI Group remains committed to helping build a more inclusive future for all.
