Bringing Sustainability Into Everyday Workplace Habits
Led by the Group Corporate Sustainability Department, with cross-functional support from the Communications and Admin teams, QI Group reinforced its commitment to sustainability and responsible workplace practices through a recent Earth Day sustainability initiative at QI Tower, Malaysia, in collaboration with Kita Refill, alongside Zero Waste Malaysia and sustainability-focussed community partners.
Designed to make sustainable living more accessible and practical, the initiative encouraged employees to adopt everyday habits that reduce waste, support circular-economy practices, and promote more conscious consumption.
The activation aligns with the QI Group Sustainability Framework centred on People, Planet & Principles, particularly supporting the Planet and People pillars through environmental awareness, employee engagement and community participation.
Promoting Refill Culture And Circular Economy Practices
A key highlight of the event was the Kita Refill mobile refill station, which enabled employees to refill household and personal care products using their own reusable containers.
By encouraging refill and reuse practices, the initiative helped reduce reliance on single-use plastic packaging while demonstrating how small behavioural changes can collectively contribute to reducing everyday waste.
The event also featured sustainability-focussed community vendors showcasing zero-waste products and creative upcycling initiatives using repurposed materials such as plastic bags, batik fabric and saree textiles. These collaborations highlighted the role local enterprises play in advancing circular economy practices while supporting community livelihoods and responsible business practices.
The initiative also demonstrated the value of collaboration between businesses, social enterprises and sustainability-focussed community partners in advancing practical sustainability solutions.
Turning Awareness Into Measurable Impact
The Earth Day activation saw strong participation from employees across QI Tower, reflecting growing awareness around sustainable living and workplace sustainability efforts.
During the event:
• An estimated equivalent of 308 one-litre bottles was avoided through refill activities
• 76 pieces of single-use packaging were avoided
• 73 refill transactions were completed
Beyond its environmental impact, the initiative provided employees with a practical and accessible opportunity to participate in sustainability efforts within the workplace community.
Supporting QI Group’s Long-Term ESG Roadmap
The collaboration with Kita Refill forms part of QI Group’s broader ESG Roadmap and ongoing efforts to embed sustainable everyday habits into workplace culture. The initiative reflects QI Group’s broader efforts to integrate sustainability into everyday workplace culture through practical and accessible employee engagement initiatives.
As part of this continued commitment, the Kita Refill mobile van will return to QI Tower once every two months over the next year, helping employees maintain access to refill solutions and encouraging long-term behavioural change.
By making sustainable choices more accessible and actionable, QI Group continues to reinforce its commitment to responsible business practices, employee engagement and long-term environmental stewardship.
