QI Group’s property arm, Wawasan QI Property (WQIP),  Etiqa Takaful Berhad, Malaysia’s top insurance service provider and Green Venture Capital (GVC), the developer of the massive QI City project in Bandar Meru Raya near Ipoh have joined forces to launch a medical card project which will be accepted and recognized initially at QI City’s University Hospital.

Malaysians will benefit from this health care card scheme introduced by WQIP, which will be launched soon for use at the University Hospital  at QI City.

A memorandum of agreement (MOA) was inked recently between the three parties  held at QI Tower in Petaling Jaya. This medical card will offer patients similar services like any other card.

“WQIP is the owner of the copyright and is working along with Etiqa takaful. We have worked on this card scheme for about a year and will leverage on Etiqa’s experience to develop this Medical Card program for all Malaysians. In addition, the parties involved will work together and explore innovative ways in encouraging the use of this medical card.

“We are extremely pleased to receive support from Etiqa Takaful. This collaboration is important for us as it helps pave a way towards promoting a progressive way in seeking medical assistance. We certainly look forward to get this card eventually accepted and recognized at all government hospitals nationwide”, said Mr. Kuna Senathirajah, Deputy Group Managing Director of QI Group.

The total premium payable for this subsidized medical card is RM300. It covers up to 65 years of age (currently in negotiations for up to 70 years of age). The scope of this card usage is for both in-patient and out-patient and treatment covers pre and existing medical conditions.  Patients under the scheme will pay subsidized rates at government hospitals including the University Hospitals.

“We feel this card will be timely and very helpful as there is a rising awareness for healthcare among Malaysians. The effort is part of the larger narrative to raise health levels of Malaysians through early intervention and healthier lifestyle choices – while keeping costs in check.

“Undoubtedly, this will lead the government towards good, affordable and sustainable healthcare in the long term. Also, this medical card scheme will  help prepare Malaysians for a more challenging future,” explained Mr. Chandragesan Suppiah, Director and CEO of Wawasan QI Property.

Meanwhile, Encik Zafri Ab Halim Etiqa Takaful Bhd’s Chief Executive Officer said, “Etiqa Takaful is pleased to join hands with both WQIP and GVC in making this health card affordable to  cover standard medical and hospitalisation treatments at the University Hospital in QI City and later at public healthcare institutions. We are working closely to launch this card soon and make available for all Malaysians nationwide”.

The QI City project, costing RM1.2 billion, will feature among others a teaching hospital which would comprise a public wing with 600 beds and a private wing with 240 beds.
