Kami Builders Sdn Bhd (KBSB) has secured a federal grant under the Sustainable and Responsible Investment (SRI) Sukuk and Bond Grant Scheme, marking another milestone in Malaysia’s sustainable finance landscape.

The grant, established by the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) and administered by Capital Markets Malaysia (CMM), follows KBSB’s landmark RM300 million ASEAN Sustainability SRI Sukuk Programme. KBSB has successfully issued a RM90 million first tranche to fund the development of Quest International University’s new campus, strengthening its position in sustainable and ESG-linked financing.

SC established the grant scheme to incentivise and encourage issuers to finance green, social and sustainability-related projects through sukuk financing issued under the SC’s SRI Sukuk Framework, or bonds issued in Malaysia under the ASEAN Green, Social and Sustainability Bond Standards.

Designed to support Malaysia’s transition to a low-carbon economy, the SC’s grant scheme offsets eligible issuance costs for companies financing green, social and sustainability-linked projects. By securing this backing, KBSB is able to offset eligible external review expenses while supporting its broader sustainable financing objectives.

Under this scheme, certain eligible expenses incurred in connection with the issuance of these sukuk or bonds may be claimed as a grant, subject to the applicable requirements and conditions set by the SC.

Financial Details and Reimbursement Structure
Under the Scheme’s guidelines, eligible issuers are entitled to claim a 90% reimbursement on actual external review expenses, capped at RM300,000 per issuance.

Strategic Importance and Sustainability Outlook
By capitalising on Malaysia’s progressive sustainable capital market incentives, this grant approval marks an important milestone in KBSB’s broader corporate strategy. The development reinforces KBSB’s focus on responsible and sustainability-linked growth.

Looking ahead, KBSB will continue to explore new green financing opportunities and expand its portfolio of sustainable developments, setting a new benchmark for the group.
