The Philippines is this year’s host of the 30th ASEAN Summit, where the leaders of Southeast Asian countries converge to strengthen their ties and relationships with each other. Adjunct to this summit was the 14th ASEAN Leadership Forum where the QI Group participated as strategic partner of the organiser, Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI), in bringing the top leaders from the political, academic, and business sectors together for a day of productive and peaceful discussions. The aim of the event is to explore and devise strategies on how ASEAN countries can work together to face today’s political and economic opportunities for the growth of each nation.
Representing the QI Group at the 14th ASEAN Leadership Forum were V Partner Donna Imson-Lecaroz, QI Philippines General Manager Mayette Dela Cruz, and QI Philippines Acting Finance Manager Josel Ubaldo.
Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ASLI, Tan Sri Michael O.K. Yeoh, spearheaded the event. Dato’ Sri Mustapa Mohamed, Malaysia’s Minister of International Trade and Industry, and Former Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos graced the event and delivered insightful speeches. Mr Philip Yung Wai-Hung represented Mr Gregory So, Hong Kong’s Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development, in delivering Hong Kong’s ideas and contribution to the success of the forum.
Incumbent Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte made a special appearance and, in his closing speech, said, “We are all active contributors to this story. Let us work together as partners in engaging the world. Let us ensure that the ASEAN narrative remains strong and that the lessons we learn and the values we all hear as a community are told in full and said with resonance.”
Both the ASEAN Summit and Leadership Forum have one purpose – to help each country in Southeast Asia to flourish through stronger teamwork.
