The QI Group was among the leading companies present at the 2017 Horasis Global Meeting held in Cascais, Portugal between 27–30 May. QI Group Executive Chairman Dato’ Sri Vijay Eswaran, as a member of the Visionary Circle, subscribed fully to the vision of empowering global cooperative and sustainable growth especially in the context of digitalisation.
This year’s theme revolved around promoting togetherness to raise inventiveness and overcome oppression. QI, represented by its Director of Corporate and Legal Affairs Zaheer Merchant, covered the topic of ‘Developing the Digital Economy,’ in which it highlighted the need to have a more inclusive learning and system that would enable more people to embrace digitalisation.
Accordingly, while many nations have long-term plans to develop their IT infrastructure and industry, other countries lag behind and have yet to develop a more coherent strategy. ‘The digital economy is changing the world, including who the main players are, and this raises concerns about how the sovereignty of countries are affected and how to deal with the issue of dehumanisation due to digital’s often impersonal approach’, Zaheer was quoted as stating.
The conference was preceded with the Prime Minister of Portugal and subsequently the President of Portugal hosting two dinners for participants, and saw a significant networking of key top management, government officials, and thought leaders.
Also in attendance at the event were QI Director of Research & Development Joachim Steffen, QI Director of International Operations JR Mayer, and QI Deputy Group Managing Director Kuna Senathirajah.
